Main activities are concentrated at the following areas:

research in areas of numerical mathematics, numerical methods in geomechanics and computer science,
development of research software for finite element method with emphasis on solution of extremely demanding problems as well as on applying own research results,
solving problems of geomechanics, application of research results and software in projects solved in other divisions of the Institute of Geonics and projects solved for industry.

The current research interests are the following:

iterative methods for solving large systems of linear and nonlinear systems of algebraic equations,
numerical methods for solving elasto-plasticity problems,
technique of composite grids with application for solving problems requiring local refinement of finite element grid,
numerical methods for problems of contact of bodies,
preprocessing and postprocessing for finite element method,
computer environment for efficient numerical computations including parallel processing features and computer graphics,
modelling of special geomechanical techniques as e.g. supporting,
UPPMAX project.
